Common Misconceptions About NDIS Functional Capacity Assessments
Share
Functional Capacity Assessments (FCAs) are an essential part of the NDIS process, but many participants and carers have questions or concerns. There are a few common misconceptions that can make the process seem more complicated than it really is.
Misconception 1: You have to do everything in person
Some people believe that FCAs require multiple in-person appointments. In reality, the process can be flexible. At You & Me Therapy, you submit your relevant allied health documents first, and then we schedule a single appointment, in person or online, to review your needs.
Misconception 2: Assessments only focus on limitations
A functional capacity assessment isn’t just about what you can’t do. It’s designed to provide a complete picture of your abilities, strengths, and goals, so the NDIS can tailor supports that help you live independently and achieve your personal objectives.
Misconception 3: Reports are only paperwork
While the FCA results in a detailed report, it’s more than just documentation. The report directly impacts your NDIS plan, funding decisions, and access to supports. A well-prepared assessment ensures the NDIS understands your needs accurately.
Misconception 4: You need to provide all the answers yourself.
You don’t have to navigate the process alone. As occupational therapists, we guide you step by step, helping you submit the right documents, interpret questions, and reflect your daily life accurately in the assessment.
Understanding these misconceptions can reduce stress and help you approach your functional capacity assessment with confidence. At You & Me Therapy, we make the process straightforward and supportive, ensuring your assessment truly reflects your abilities and support needs.
